Week of August 18th – Seeing with Eyes of Faith

“. . . persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus . . .”  (Hebrews 12).

How timely these words of scripture for this past week.

The big event of the week was vacation bible school – held for the 3rd year now at the Provincialate of the Sisters of the Holy Redeemer.  The theme of bible school was “Kingdom Rock:  Where Kids Stand Strong for God.”  The children learned that God helps them stand strong in the midst of their daily experiences.  The songs, dances, bible stories, arts & crafts and games all helped them to keep their eyes fixed on Jesus.

Another special event was our Retreat in Daily Life for young women discerning God’s invitation in their lives.  The overarching theme for the retreat was that of Pilgrimage – walking the way to discover more fully God and one’s self.  Participants engaged in service, and community prayer, meals and activities.  The primary purpose of the retreat – to listen to and keep our eyes on Jesus – who is
“the way the life and the truth.”

At the end of the week we welcomed the new Redeemer Ministry Corps volunteers who will share a year of faith, community and service with the Sisters.  We hope to encourage them and one another to run the race and keep our eyes fixed on Jesus throughout this year.

Let us prayer that as we keep on eyes fixed on Jesus this coming week we will see Jesus in places, in people, in events we never expected.  “Open our eyes, Lord, help us to see your face, open our eyes, Lord, help us to see.”  (From the song “Open our Eyes).
